Aristoteles Latinus Database
The Aristoteles Latinus Database, first edition (ALD-1, 2003) is a database derived from the Aristoteles Latinus edition project, the critical edition of all medieval Greek-Latin translations of Aristotle. The project is based at the Aristoteles Latinus Centre, KU Leuven, and the ALD-1 CD-ROM has been produced in collaboration with the Centre Traditio Litterarum Occidentalium, Turnhout.
ALD-1 contains all the Greek-Latin versions that have been critically edited in the printed series, together with a selection of texts soon to be published in the series. It contains the full critically edited texts, together with interlinear notes and typographical distinctions, but omits some of the other features of the print versions, such as prefatory material and some of the critical and comparative apparatus.
The database enables the user to search the text of the versions for attested forms, to display all sententiae found which fulfil their search criteria and to view the works in which these are located.
Getting started
ALD-1 is a CD-ROM available from the Reading Room staff for use in Reading Room Computer 2 only.
Insert the CD-ROM in the CD tray of Computer 2. Click on the icon on the computer desktop labelled Aristoteles Latinus Database. An introductory screen should open, enabling you to select the language setting you prefer for the database. Once you have selected a language, the full database screen will open.
The full screen view consists of a main window together with a toolbar and menu at the top of the screen. At the top of the main window, a row of tabs provide access to the different functions of the database:
Inquisitio – for entry of search criteria
Sententiae – displays all the sententiae resulting from a search
Textus – displays the full text that is the source of the current sententia
Memento – displays the memento corresponding to the current sententia, giving chronological, bibliographical, critical and statistical information about the text from which it comes
The toolbar and menu at the top of the screen offer a range of navigation and action functions. These are described in detail in the extensive ‘Help’ section accessed via the menu.
For further assistance with this resource please ask a librarian in the Reading Room.
