Renaissance Latin Course

A course for beginners and those who wish to brush up their Latin or apply a knowledge of Classical Latin to the Renaissance and Early Modern period given by Dr Guido Giglioni at the Warburg Institute
2 weeks starting on Monday 3 September 2012 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday
The course is open to anyone interested at a cost of £175.00. Admission free to present and future students of the Warburg Institute.

The Warburg Institute is offering a two-week course in Renaissance Latin taught by Dr Guido Giglioni, Cassamarca Lecturer in Neo-Latin Cultural and Intellectual History at the Warburg Institute.  It is designed both for absolute beginners and for those who wish to brush up their knowledge of Latin, including students of classical Latin who want to apply their skills to read works from the Renaissance and early modern period.  The course focuses on Latin texts from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, drawing on a wide range of sources: the sophisticated Latin of the humanists; various forms of technical Latin (medical, philosophical, theological, etc.); and macaronic jumbles of Latin and the vernacular. The course will last for two weeks, from Monday, 3 September to Friday, 14 September 2012 for three hours a day.  Each day will be divided into two sessions: a morning session, from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm which will focus on grammatical instruction; and an afternoon session from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm which will concentrate on supervised reading and translation of Latin texts.
