The Warburg Institute is offering a two-week course in Renaissance Latin taught by Dr Guido Giglioni, Cassamarca Lecturer in Neo-Latin Cultural and Intellectual History at the Warburg Institute.  It is designed both for absolute beginners and for those who wish to brush up their knowledge of Latin, including students of classical Latin who want to apply their skills to read works from the Renaissance and early modern period.  The course focuses on Latin texts from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, drawing on a wide range of sources: the sophisticated Latin of the humanists; various forms of technical Latin (medical, philosophical, theological, etc.); and macaronic jumbles of Latin and the vernacular. One of the principal aims of the course is to help students develop the ability to read primary sources in the original Latin.  Please contact Dr Giglioni if you have questions about the content of the course: guido.giglioni(at)sas.ac.uk

The course will last for two weeks, from Monday, 3 September to Friday, 14 September 2012 for three hours a day.  Each day will be divided into two sessions: a morning session, from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm which will focus on grammatical instruction; and an afternoon session from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm which will concentrate on supervised reading and translation of Latin texts.
