Book and Print Initiative Seminar - A Tour of Blocks and Plates at Senate House Library
Elizabeth Savage (Senior Lecturer in Book History and Communications, Institute of English Studies), Tansy Barton (Academic Librarian: Manuscript and Book Studies, Senate House Library)
Senate House Library has significant collection of books, prints, ephemera, and other printed materials—as well as the objects used to produce them. This talk offers a guided tour through highlights of its cut and engraved woodblocks, stereotypes, and intaglio plates. It will introduce how they were used, what they are like as objects, and how they can be used to understand the history of the book today.
The Book & Print Initiative was founded in 2017 to bring together scholars of books, printed material, and printing, at all career stages, across the School of Advanced Study (SAS).
