This year’s beginners Renaissance Latin reading course takes place in the Warburg Institute Lecture Room over two weeks from 9 - 20 September 2019, Monday to Friday.

Each day divides into two sessions:
Morning (11.00am-1.00pm): grammatical instruction
Afternoon (2.00-3.00pm): supervised reading and translation of Latin texts

The course is designed for beginners and focuses on Latin texts from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, drawing on a wide range of sources - the sophisticated Latin of the humanists, various forms of technical Latin (medical, philosophical, theological, etc.), and macaronic jumbles of Latin and the vernacular. One of the principal aims of the course is to help students develop the ability to read primary sources in the original Latin.

Students who wish to brush up their Latin are welcome to register, but they should be aware that the course content will be at beginner level.

Registration and payment:

School of Advanced Study and LAHP-funded students: £140
Standard: £200
