Profile

Rheagan Eric Martin is the Samuel H. Kress Institutional Fellow at The Warburg Institute (2019-2021), and a Ph.D. Candidate in the History of Art at the University of Michigan. He studies late medieval and early modern art with a focus on fifteenth-century book production in Venice, Italy. Rheagan engages with printed, painted, and illuminated books covering a wide range of intellectual domains, yet centered around themes of materiality, the economic conditions of production, and remediation—how print playfully participates in and deviates from manuscript culture. Rheagan is interested in the intersections of book production and broader material culture from scientific instruments to numismatics and precious stones.
