Following the completion of the Warburg Renaissance project and the opening of the new Wohl Special Collections reading room, the Warburg Institute is offering a limited number of short-term Collections Research Grants to support scholars from all nationalities and career stages, including PhD candidates. These grants, valued at up to £1,000, aim to assist researchers in exploring the Warburg’s renowned collections—its Library, Photographic Collection, and Archive. Proposals that incorporate all three collections are highly encouraged.

To celebrate the return of the Warburg’s Collections after the building project and the opening of the new Wohl Special Collections reading room, we are delighted to make these grants available for work on the Warburg’s own collections.

Giles Mandelbrote, Warburg Librarian and Director of Collections

The grants are designed to cover travel and research expenses, allowing scholars to conduct focused research onsite at the Institute. Please note applicants must reside outside a 70-mile radius from the Warburg Institute. The Warburg Library, which holds 370,000 volumes, is an open-access, interdisciplinary resource, while the Archive contains key materials on the Institute’s history, and the Photographic Collection offers 400,000 images cataloged through a unique iconographic system.

Applications must be submitted by midnight on Friday, 22 November 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2025, with the research period running from 1 June 2025 to 1 June 2026.
