Curatorial Conversations | 'Surprise. Carlo Crivelli at Ikon Gallery'
Curators Amanda Hilliam and Jonathan Watkins in conversation with Professor Michelle O'Malley
Carlo Crivelli: Shadows on the Sky was the first exhibition in the UK dedicated to this Renaissance artist. It took place at a venue renowned for the presentation of modern and contemporary art: Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. Curators Amanda Hilliam and Jonathan Watkins discuss the development of the project and the installation. Concerning the latter, there are surprising interventions that correspond to the subtle wit that characterises Crivelli’s paintings.
Curatorial Conversations bring to the Warburg curators of world-leading museums and galleries to discuss their work. The conversations, led by academics at the Warburg Institute, discuss the issues of setting the curatorial agenda and staging meaningful encounters with objects. The series is designed to draw out discussion of the discoveries made, challenges tackled and the lessons learned in installing objects in the permanent collection and putting together internationally renowned exhibitions.
