In September 1895 Aby Warburg set off on a journey to the United States of America which would have a major impact on his scholarly career. He presented his cultural-anthropological studies, on the topic of Snake Rituals, through lectures in 1897 and during his stay at Kreuzlingen in 1923. In addition to reliable transcriptions of these texts and around 200 photographs taken by Warburg himself, which record among other topics ceremonial dances of the Pueblo Indians, this edition presents a complete catalogue of his collection of Indian artefacts for the first time. 

Aby Warburg brach im September 1895 zu einer folgenreichen Reise in die USA auf. Seine kulturanthropologischen Forschungen (»Schlangenritual«) präsentierte er in Vorträgen 1897 sowie im Kreuzlinger Sanatorium 1923. Neben verlässlichen Transkriptionen und ca. 200 Fotografien, die er im Südwesten der USA u.a. von Tanzritualen der Pueblo-Indianer aufnahm, bietet diese Edition erstmals den vollständigen Katalog seiner Sammlung indianischer Artefakte.
