To apply you need to be a citizen of a country within North America and have submitted a complete application (including references and transcripts) by the deadline. University of London building work affecting Warburg Institute

Birkbeck, University of London are carrying out significant construction work to their building which is adjacent to the Warburg Institute on Torrington Square. We anticipate that this work will affect users of the Institute. We are taking measures to mitigate the impact but some disruption will occur, particularly with regards to noise. Professor Charles Burnett Awarded Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy

  We are pleased to report that Charles Burnett , professor of the history of Islamic influences in Europe at the Warburg Institute, has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The honour recognises his contribution to the knowledge of the transmission of Arabic sciences and philosophy into the medieval Latin tradition. Professor Burnett, who joined the Warburg Insitute at the School of Advanced Study (SAS) in 1985, will collect his honorary degree at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre on 19 October.

Peter Fane-Saunders, Warburg Institute Alumnus, receives prestigious Phyllis Goodhart Gordan Prize from the Renaissance Society of America

We are pleased to report that Peter Fane-Saunders, who completed his PhD at the Warburg Institute in 2010, has been awarded the prestigious Phyllis Goodhart Gordan Prize by the Renaissance Society of America for his book  Pliny the Elder and the Emergence of Renaissance Architecture , published by Cambridge University Press. Peter thanked the Institute for the support that he received during his study here, stating: "...without the Warburg and SAS, the book would have never achieved such success!"

Warburg Institute Refurbishment Project

The University of London has agreed to a multi-million pound refurbishment for the Warburg Institute building. The building – originally designed by Charles Holden – has not been substantially updated since it opened in 1958, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will not only address infrastructure issues but also adopt a sensitive approach to the building to protect and nurture the future life of the Institute and to explore changes and additions needed for a more public-facing Warburg Institute.

New Post-doctoral Fellowship funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

The Warburg Institute is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral research fellow associated with its newly established Professorship in the History of Art, Science and Folk Practice, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This is a two-year position, with an emphasis both on developing the candidate’s own research and on collaborating on interdisciplinary projects under way at the Warburg Institute.
